We exist to help teens, young adults, and families overcome the effects of drugs and alcohol while partnering with the community in education and prevention.
At Rise Recovery, we are more than a recovery program—we are a compassionate community dedicated to empowering youth, young adults, and families to overcome the challenges of substance use and mental health struggles. Since our founding, we’ve worked to provide a safe, welcoming space where healing happens, connections grow, and lives transform. Through peer support, education, and recovery-focused programs, we walk alongside every individual and family, offering hope, tools, and guidance to help them reclaim their futures. Together, we rise above the challenges and build a brighter, healthier community.
We are Rise.

Helping teens, young adults and families overcome the effects of drugs and alcohol, and partner with the community in education and prevention.
Our History
Rise Recovery originally began as the Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP), which was founded in Houston, Texas in 1971. PDAP was later brought to San Antonio in 1977. Over time, PDAP has rebranded as Rise Recovery to include additional programs. During the initial program, young adults discovered that through mutual love, acceptance, and support, they could stop using drugs and alcohol, resulting in a steadfast commitment. They also learned that through loving and helping one another, their self-esteem was elevated. Furthermore, they witnessed the strength, unity, and power that comes from the “love of the group”. These principles of love and understanding remain the foundation of PDAP 47 plus years later!
PDAP-San Antonio received its first United Way funding and started to expand to be able to reach more of the community.
1984
