Position Overview
The YES Program Peer Specialist will provide direct services for Independent School Districts in Bexar County and the surrounding areas and complete associated documentation according to the requirements of Rise Recovery’s YES Program, in partnership with San Antonio’s Mobile Mental Wellness Collaborative.

Additionally, all Rise Recovery staff must cultivate donor and community relationships to raise awareness of the organization’s work, goals, and financial needs.
Essential Job Functions
• Collaborate with Program Manager to develop and coordinate recovery-oriented support groups for ISD students in conjunction with the goals and standards of care set forth by the ISD Student Support Services Department.
• Ensure all documentation is completed within a 24-hour period, is submitted in accordance with ISD and Rise Recovery standards and meets all designated requirements.
• Provide assessments, develop an individualized recovery plan to identify achievable goals, plan for handling triggers and managing cravings, and provide emotional support and encouragement to individuals in recovery from addiction.
• Provide substance use assessments and/or recovery coaching to students prescreened by the ISD Student Support Services Department.
• Ensure all referrals are managed and assigned to a caseload and the caseload is provided to the district.
• Provide advocacy for the participant and help them navigate through any barriers or challenges they may face in their recovery.
• Engage participant families to aide in the recovery journey and partner with peer specialists to provide ongoing support and guidance.
• Promote Rise Recovery by providing educational presentations regarding substance use and recovery while highlighting every service available to the community through Rise Recovery programming.
Additional Job Responsibilities
• Adhere to policies regarding confidentiality, background checks, and informed consent.
• Collaborate with Program Manager to consult directly with designated school representatives such as principals, social workers, school counselors and other ISD staff as needed.
• Provide monthly consultation sessions to the Student Support Services as needed.
• Confirm attendance for students and parents at recovery meetings.
• Ensure information sharing across ISD and Rise Recovery.
• Prepare, coordinate and provide fun sober activities for the YES participants.
• Other duties as assigned by Program Manager.
Education and Training
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Training in peer recovery coaching or related field.
• Licensed as certified RSPS or higher credential within 6 months of hire.
• Must maintain compliance with all requirements of ongoing state certification for credential.
Knowledge and Experience
• Personal or family experience with long term recovery.
• Minimum of 12 months continuous recovery required and must maintain an ongoing personal program of recovery and knowledge of recovery principles.
• Knowledge of all applicable rules and regulations pertaining to substance use disorder counseling and treatment and/or peer recovery models.
• Current State of Texas Driver License with at least Liability Insurance coverage.
• Applicants must have a valid Texas driver license, a minimum of six (6) years of driving experience, a clean driving record, and must be twenty-three (23) years of age or older to comply with Rise Recovery’s insurance requirements.
• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage, be able to travel as needed, and be able to meet on a consistent basis the driving record requirements of Rise Recovery’s auto insurance carrier since personal vehicle is driven during company business.
• Minimum of one (1) year of full-time work experience in the social services or substance use disorder and/or co-occurring services (preferred).
• Professional experience working with youth diagnosed with substance use disorder and/or cooccurring disorders (preferred).
• Professional experience working with school districts, on campus (preferred).
• Willingness to participate in ongoing personal continuing education and career development consistent with annual development plan.
• Exhibits bold faith in peoples’ capacity for change.

• Demonstrates compassion and empathy for people in recovery and those still suffering from the disease of addiction.
• Serve as a role model and mentor for others.

• Identifies and helps resolve obstacles to recovery.
Skill Competencies
• Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications.
• Bilingual in English / Spanish (desired).
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability.
• Ability to relate with respect to persons from diverse ethnic, social-cultural, life-style, and educational backgrounds.
• Ability to work well with a team.
• Ability to maintain clear ethical boundaries between self and clients.
• Ability to travel to meetings and other sites.
Physical Requirements
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements to complete SAMA and CPR training including lifting up to 12 lbs. and supporting up to 55 lbs.; bending, stooping, and getting on and off the floor without assistance.
• Ability to participate in outdoor activities with youth.
• Able to operate standard office technology, equipment and utilize office supplies.
Working Conditions
• Standard administrative office environment
• Daily commuting for meetings and support to the local service centers.
• Regularly scheduled hours may vary during periods of workload fluctuation.
• Typical scheduled hours during the school year are Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm dependent on the needs of the YES Program and the ISD being served.
• Occasional night, weekend and holiday hours may be necessary to support additional recovery programming and/or Rise Recovery events.
• Ability to provide transportation to youth needing services in the local community is required for this role.
